Orientation session for 2014 Erasmus Mundus Mobility with Asia grants program on 29 Nov 2013

The Office of International Relations invites interested students, faculty members, and staff to attend AN ORIENTATION session on the 2014 Erasmus Mundus Mobility with Asia grants program, on Friday, November 29, 2013, from 4.30 to 6 pm, at Faber Hall 302.

The ORIENTATION session will focus on the EMMAsia 2013 and EMMAsia 2014 grants. Sponsored by the Erasmus Mundus Programme of the European Commission through its Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency(EACEA), the grants provide for the exchange of students and staff (academic and non-academic) between Asian and European higher education institutions.

The exchanges aim to enrich the individual experiences of the grantees in their program of study in the host universities, and at the same time
enhance the multicultural academic environments in the universities involved. In the last four years, 38 Ateneo students and staff (and 73 from
the rest of the Philippines) have been awarded EMMA grants under previous programs.

In the EMMAsia 2013 and EMMAsia 2014 projects, the Philippines can send students/faculty/staff to any of the partner universities listed below:

EMMAsia 2013 (known as EMMA-West)

For Ateneo and UP-Diliman only:

  • Undergraduate: 6 months (U6)\
  • Masters: 6 months (M6) and 22 months (M22)
  • Doctorate: 10 months (D10)
  • Academic Staff: 1 month (S1)

For the Philippines:

  • Masters: 22 months (M22)
  • Doctorate: 10 months (D10)
  • Post-Doctorate: 6 months (P6)

EMMAsia 2013 (known as EMMA-West) European partner universities:

Important notes:

  1. All applications should be done online; deadline is December 31, 2013. For instructions on how to apply in EMMAsia 2013 and EMMAsia 2014, visit following websites: http://emmasia.uevora.pt/emmasia and http://emmasia.udn/vn, respectively. Note that the two EMMA projects are independent.
  2. Applicants need to set-up Mobility Projects (MP) in EMMAsia 2013, or Mobility Offers (MO) in EMMAsia 2014. One may also select an MP or MO that has been identified by Ateneo or European universities in the list of published MPs/MOs. Please visit the websites of the relevant partner universities for the available fields of study and requirements for admission.
  3. For the non-degree or exchange grants, only students who are currently enrolled in Ateneo or UP are qualified to apply.
  4. The Academic Staff mobility involves training, teaching and/or research activities to be performed by academic staff of partner institutions (such as Ateneo de Manila University) in host universities.
  5. The scholarship grants for students including for post-docs will begin in September or October 2014, depending on the European university. However, the grants for Academic Staff may begin anytime between June and December 2014.
  6. Some European universities may require a certain level of proficiency in their language. Please visit their websites for additional information. The grants cover roundtrip airfare; monthly stipend; and health, travel and accident insurance.

Linking European and Asian Academic Networks: Experiences in Climate Change and Disaster Research and Education

From June 28 – 30, 2012, the Ateneo de Manila University will host a promotional seminar on European Higher Education in the field of climate change. The seminar entitled “Linking European and Asian Academic Networks: Experiences in Climate Change and Disaster Research and Education,” will be organized within the framework of the Erasmus Mundus program, “Linking European, African, Asian Academic Networks on Climate Change” (LEAN-CC), a project co-funded by the European Commission.

The project aims at improving awareness on climate change in selected regions and reducing the barriers to study in European Higher Education Institutions. Moreover, it hopes to provide prospective non-EU students with greater incentive to participate in EU educational programs in the field of climate change.

The LEAN-CC project gathers  a consortium of 5 EU (Foscari University; Erasmus University of Rotterdam I.H.S/R.H.V, Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, Radboud University Nijimegen, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences) and 5 non-EU (UNIKA Soegijapranata Semarang, Universitas Gadjah Mada, University of the Witwatersrand, Ateneo de Manila University) institutions led by a team comprising of staff members from Erasmus University of Rotterdam and the Institute of Housing and Urban Development Studies. The Consortium members share expertise in climate change adaptation and mitigation in urban areas, natural resource management, water management, urban ecology, governance and urban planning.

Faculty members, researchers, administrators, students, government representatives involved with higher education or climate change training (local and national) and relevant private sector representatives are invited to join the seminar which will be held at Escaler Hall, Science Education Complex.
